Political Officer

The Danish Embassy in Portugal is seeking to hire a dynamic, dedicated and detail-oriented local Political Officer.
Position: Political officer
Type of employment: Full-time employment. Temporary contract to replace an employee on maternity leave.
Starting date: No later than 5 January 2026.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Monitor political and socio-economic developments in Portugal in cooperation with the Team Leader of the Political Team and with desk officers in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Conduct research and analysis on political processes and policies; predict political, social, and economic trends in Portugal as well as emerging issues related to the overall situation and development in the country and on the regional level and in political relations with the EU.
- Key role in planning and execution of delegations visits to Portugal and Denmark.
- Draft internal and external communication, including taking minutes at meetings, gathering flash news reports and developing fact sheets in preparation of delegation visits.
- Contribute to a cooperative work place by providing assistance to colleagues (within and outside of your team) when needed and within competencies and capacities.
- Perform other duties and related tasks as required.
- The tasks are carried out at the Embassy or in connection with events outside the Embassy, including in the Danish residence.

This is a temporary job position to replace an employee on maternity leave. You will be offered full-time employment for 9-12 months, depending on the starting date and the Embassy’s needs.
The work contract will be based on the Portuguese labour rules and salary in accordance with the Embassy’s Salary Policy for local staff. Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and work-related results.
Your standard working hours will be 40 hours per week, with a degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours. You will be entitled to 2.08 days of paid holiday per month/five weeks of paid holiday per year.
The chosen candidate must present a “No Criminal Record” and pass security clearance by the Danish Authorities prior to appointment.
Expected start: No later than 5 January 2026.
