Business Advice

•  It is easy to do business with the Portuguese. They are generally well-educated and speak good English, and at same time are pragmatic and hard-working.

The Portuguese are modest and often say 'maybe',  rather than 'no'. They are also extremely self-critical. One should therefore be empathetic to perceive all signals.

•  Portuguese companies are often hierarchical and most decisions are primarily taken by management. Correct appearance and the use of titles are important in the Portuguese business environment. First encounters may be very formal.

•  Personal relations matter. It is important to be present on the market and get to know your business partner.

•  Although great efforts are made at central government level to reduce bureaucracy, communication with authorities may take longer than in Denmark.
