A team from the Danish Embassy in Lisbon participated in the annual 200 kilometre bicycle ride from Tróia to Sagres. It was a tough yet rewarding trip through southern Portugal.
The Embassy participated in the 27th edition of the traditional Tróia-Sagres ride held December 10th. Our team were joined by another bicycle enthusiast from Novo Nordisk Portugal who with great enthusiasm and extra energy helped push the entire team along. Though not everyone finished the entire 200 kilometres, each took as big a part as he/she could manage. The event was a positive team experience strengthen the Danish brand and the promotion of physical exercise as a way to prevent diabetes. More than 6.000 people participated this year, some sources claim. It was great for the Embassy to take part in a new pre-Christmas tradition. For the occasion and for use in future events, special bicycle jerseys had been designed with the ministry logo and the Embassy logotype in Portuguese, to make sure that the Embassy is easily recognisable on the road.
The ride from Tróia to Sagres first took place in 1990, when one man rode the entire distance all by himself. In the following years friends and friends of friends joined him, resulting in an ever growing event with a special place in the hearts of Portuguese bicyclists. 200 kilometres through hilly terrain is no walk in the park, but the informality of the event, the beautiful scenery in the Alentejo and Algarve Regions and the high spirit shared between the many participants make it an experience you would want to repeat.
